Dr. Heather Pressley, PhD., CEO
Dr. Heather Pressley, PHD has been an educator, leader, family and youth advocate for over 25 years. Currently, she is the founder and CEO of the Root Collaborative, LLC. Before sharing her experience and achievements, it is important to note, Heather grew up the youngest of five in a working class family in upstate New York and was the first in her family to attend and graduate college. She earned her BA in English, History and Womens’ Studies from SUNY Albany, her EdM in Teaching and Learning from Harvard Graduate School of Education and her PhD from UNC Charlotte in Urban Education with a focus on curriculum and school reform. Over the last 25 years, Heather has engaged in education in various forms: from teaching middle and high school English and history, to starting an experiential school in Colorado; from funding and running a literacy through photography program for “at-risk” youth”, to leading graduate seminars at Harvard and Columbia University; from creating a Summer Bridge program at an urban charter school, to coaching and mentoring classroom teachers and leaders across the country. Before starting The Root Collaborative in 2018, she served as Senior Vice President of Programming for Girls on the Run International where she led a team that increased access and inclusion across the organization through the revision of their nationally recognized youth development, SEL curriculum, the creation of a new middle school program and the envisioning of the organizations first D & I initiative.
Anyone who knows her or has worked with her would describe her as empathetic, focused and relentless in her pursuit of her goals- which is to ensure the best educational outcomes for students and families. Period.
